Tue: Goats Distribution |
| Thursday, September 21, 2006 |
On Tuesday, returned to Naigobia after a slow morning (because we were up until 3am, and our hosts were up even later). We headed for Naigobya around lunch time, and ate snack bars in the car (typical lunch/snack for us).
We arrived at Naigobya to a customary warm welcome. I know its selfish, but will never tire of hearing the joy of children cheering and claping and singing. We keep reminding ourselves that we must remain humble...this is not from us but merely through us.
All the people gathered, and Henry described what was happening. We had 9 goats to give away. The premise is that the recipient raises and breeds the goat, and then gives away the first female goat to another needy family. And we've found...its clear to everyone who is needy and who isn't. This keeps the blessing moving forward, and creates economic opportunity (and food - they eat most of the male goats since they can't have baby goats). We left the decision on who would get the first goats up to Peter, the village worship director (who has completely proven himself in running the piglets-for-orphans program). We are so confident in the church leadership, both at the local community level (Peter), and country leadership (Charles, Violet, and Henry). They are true servants and so appreciated.
By the way...I wonder how many thousands we would be willing to pay if the simple innocent happiness and joy found in the children and people here could be exported back home. I'm convinced that the multitude of choices we have breeds discontentedness...there is always the possibility of something better. Here, every blessing is just that: a blessing. No second guessing, no better options.
We traveled back to Jinja and then headed for Kampala (3 hr drive). We stopped off at Henry's home. We met his wife and daughter, and saw his animal farm. Then, to Kampala to arrive at 10pm. We checked in to our apartment here, and crashed. We have so much fallen in love with the people of Naigobya.
By the way...thanks for following along with us, and even praying for the people in Naigobya and Uganda. There really is a unique movement happening here with the local leadership in building church communities that are reaching out to their surrounding village with love and tangible helps.
Your servants,
Troy, Paul, and Mike
