Naigobya Initiative |

Once again, we've been blown away! There are dozens of children in Naigobya who are currently not able to attend primary school. The public school is free of charge, but each child's parent/guardian must pay for supplies, meals, and a school uniform in order to attend school. For many families (and those who have taken in orphans), this is an impossibility.
The local church in Naigobya has taken it upon themselves to organize a school for these children that otherwise would miss out on an education. There are several who have invested themselves in making this possible. They have tried to scrounge up some basic teaching materials, and they are using the church shelter as the classroom. There are a couple problems with this. There are perhaps 200 children needing education, but the shelter is relatively small. Also, the shelter is aging and the thatched roof leaks badly...and the rainy season is several months of the year.
We are so proud of the love and initiative that the people of Naigobya have demonstrated, we want to help if we can. When Mike and Craig were in Naigobya in August 2007, they met with the school leaders as well as Charles, the lead pastor over the Naigobya Lutheran Churches. The consensus was that this school effort could be greatly advanced with a shelter and some basic supplies (boards, books, etc).
One of our "Friends of Naigobya" and their family generously donated the funds to construct 3 shelters (think covered park pavilion) with metal roofs, and purchase needed supplies. These are currently being constructed with hopes of completing them by early 2008.
We are asking for God's blessing of this effort, and for the continued pouring out of love by the servants at the Naigobya local church!
