Sewing Center Update – March 2008 |
| Saturday, April 05, 2008 |
Thank you to all our friends who donated fabric, notions, and dollars to purchase 6 new sewing machines! The progress in the sewing center since our last visit four months ago is very visible.
They have moved training into a shelter connected to the leader’s house. They currently have four teachers. Their skills are improving so much. The ownership and commitment to the project is very evident. They are moving closer to self-sufficiency. With their new level of skills, they are ready to train women from other villages and also pursue other projects such as providing uniforms to more schools in the area.
Industirous as always! They created patterns using empty cement bags from another village project!
The shopping spree to purchase fabric was a little more chaotic than was anticipated! This was their first trip to the “big city” of Iganga so it was a little over-whelming for them. It turned out to be an excellent learning experience. With the support and expert negotiating skills of Rev. Charles , they selected and purchased fabric including cloth for the orphan school uniforms.
The gifting of six new machines will enable the sewing center to equip more women (and men) with the skills and confidence to earn a living for their families. We look forward to seeing how these gifts will be multiplied.
