Kyabazala Bore Hole FUNDED! |
| Wednesday, May 27, 2009 |
If you have been following FSU recently, you know that we set our sights on changing the water situation in the village of Kyabazala. We visited the village’s water source in November 2008 – a mud hole that is shared with local livestock and animals. We were given a $5,000 matching grant from Global Health Ministries (www.ghm.org) to drill and install a bore hole in this community. We brought this need of $5,000 to our Friends, and many of you responded – often in some pretty sacrificial ways. Funds came from a diverse group of people, as well as over $2,000 from the 2nd annual Friends Serving Uganda garage sale in Mid-May.
We are happy to announce that we now have the funds – and drilling should begin in June!
This is a remote village of about 630 residents (87 households) that have never had access to clean safe water. Clean water will affect many aspects of life:
- less digestive sickness (and diarrhea/dehydration) and improved overall health
- children who must miss school to gather water will have a closer (and cleaner) source
- infant mortality rate is cut in half (the number of babies who die during their 1st year of life)
We want to thank you for joining us in meeting basic needs for communities in rural Uganda. You are truly demonstrating “love in action” – sacrificing for people you will likely never meet. But make no mistake: our efforts together are making a difference in village after village.
We’ll keep you posted on the progress of this bore hole in Kyabazala, as well as the bore hole we are repairing in Kabuli.
